#媒体与政府# 什么是新闻自由？美国宪法第一修正案规定：“国会不得制定任何法律...禁止自由地行使；或剥夺言论或新闻自由...”具体而言，这意味着媒体有权在没有政府审查的情况下报道新闻或传播意见。新闻自由作为第一修正案保障的权利之一，为美国人所享有。

新闻自由被美国的开国元勋视为“自由的伟大堡垒之一”。托马斯∙杰斐逊曾写道：“如果由我决定在没有报纸的政府还是没有政府的报纸之间做出选择的话，我将毫不犹豫地选择后者。”

#Media&Government What does a free press mean?  

According to the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, "Congress shall make no law…prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press…"

Specifically, it means media has the right to report news or circulate opinion without censorship from the government.  Americans enjoy freedom of the press as one of the rights guaranteed by the First Amendment.

It was considered “one of the great bulwarks of liberty” by the Founding Fathers of the United States.  Thomas Jefferson once wrote, “Were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers, or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter.”
